A wedding that bridged old Bari and the countryside of Valle d’Itria: vows exchanged inside the Cathedral of San Sabino, followed by a celebration at Masseria Palesi near Martina Franca, with guests arriving from Calabria, Lombardy, abroad and every corner of Puglia.
Vows inside the Cathedral of San Sabino
The ceremony took place inside the Cathedral of San Sabino, one of the great Romanesque landmarks of Bari’s old town, consecrated in 1292 over the remains of an earlier Byzantine church. Its ancient naves gave the vows a weight and solemnity that only centuries of history can lend to a single afternoon.
Outside, the narrow streets of the old town filled with guests waiting for the couple to appear — a charged, joyful minute that belongs entirely to the city itself, with its stone alleys and southern light.
Masseria Palesi, deep in the woods of Valle d’Itria
The reception unfolded at Masseria Palesi, a seventeenth-century estate set within more than 130 hectares of oak and holm-oak woodland, bordered by the dry-stone walls that define the UNESCO-listed Valle d’Itria. Between the baroque courtyard, the threshing floor, a trullo, and the noble palazzo, the estate offered a natural backdrop that carried the celebration well into the night.
As the light faded, warm lanterns across the courtyard, live music, and the scent of the Puglian countryside turned the masseria into something closer to a festival than a formal reception — festive at heart, but never losing its elegance.
Guests from across Italy and beyond
Among the guests were family and friends who had traveled from Calabria, from Lombardy, and from abroad, alongside those who call Puglia home — a mixed crowd united by the couple’s vision of a day split between two very different landscapes: the baroque, urban soul of Bari and the rural authenticity of the masseria.
A day that shifts color hour by hour
Photographing a day like this means following its rhythm rather than imposing one: the light changes, the color intensity changes, the mood shifts from afternoon calm to nighttime energy. My role is simply to stay present and observe, as if I too were one of the guests.
A wedding that was authentic, chic and festive at every stage — from the solemnity of the Cathedral of San Sabino to the informal freedom of Masseria Palesi, all the way to the last dance under the stars of Valle d’Itria.
